Global Brain (GB) has invested in Fermenstation Co, Ltd., a premium ethanol venture business manufacturing alcohol and fermented residue from rice based in Tokyo, through its GB-VI Growth Fund Investment Limited Partnership (GB-VI). Fermenstation mainly supplies premium alcohol to the cosmetic industry as ingredient and also develops and markets its own original products.
Fermenstation has developed a unique alcohol from rice, utilizing an idle rice field in Oshu, Iwate Prefecture, in close collaboration with local rice farmers. Fermenting a renewable society, being its corporate slogan, Fermenstation is a waste free corporation, where there are no industrial waste produced. The fermented residue is used as an ingredient for cosmetics but is also supplied as animal feed for a local free-range egg farm. The egg is a local market favorite and is known throughout the City of Oshu as one of the premium natural free-range eggs made in Oshu. The rice is also grown in rice paddies that uses no agrochemicals and chemical fertilizers and is produced in an environmentally friendly manner.
GB has evaluated Fermenstation as having growth potential in the budding global natural cosmetic space as well as remarkable management skills with expertise in creating and developing products.
Moreover, Fermenstation has developed a sustainable and eco-friendly business model whereby any byproduct is turned into a value-add ingredient or product in and of itself. Fermenstation is not only utilizing local resources but contributing to the local society at large and adding value to all those involved.
GB is committed to leverage its resources and network to support Fermenstation in further developing its business and also creating social good impact at the same time.
