Global Brain has invested in Vizcab, a platform designed for the automated computation of CO2 emissions and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) calculations for buildings and the proposal of optimum components to optimize emissions over the entire lifecycle, including Embodied Carbon, through its FUKOKU-THE MUTUAL for Next 100 Fund L.P. (TMN100).

The construction sector accounts for approximately 37% of CO2 emissions (as of FY2022) and faces a major challenge under the Paris Agreement to reduce emissions by 45% by 2030. It is predicted that the majority of future emissions will be from Embodied Carbon as Operational Carbon (emissions from building operations) declines. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the LCA of buildings correctly, including not only Operational Carbon but also Embodied Carbon, and to make efforts to adopt structures and materials with low emissions. France is particularly advanced in terms of LCA regulations, notably with the RE2020 regulation setting emission limits for all new buildings, requiring developers to commit to the regulation and to obtain third-party certification. Similar LCA regulations are expected to enter into force throughout all 27 EU countries by 2027. However, LCA is currently not an efficient solution, as it is carried out in a very manual and expensive way by environmental consultants and others, and existing LCA platforms do not automate the process.

To address these challenges, Vizcab automates the calculation of CO2 emissions and LCA for the entire lifecycle, including Embodied Carbon, and contributes to optimizing customer emissions, improving operational efficiency and ensuring regulatory compliance by proposing the most suitable components and analyzing emissions for the entire portfolio. Its large proprietary database and proprietary AI calculate emissions and costs for each component from the design stage, enabling users to optimize design and procurement of components in compliance with emissions regulations. It also performs LCA calculations and reporting in a way that complies with applicable regulations, thus significantly reducing man-hours. The company is unique in that all stakeholders involved in a project (developers, engineers/architects and component manufacturers) can easily collaborate and use the system throughout the entire process, from building design to handover. Furthermore, the entire portfolio can be analyzed and the related emissions can be optimized at project and component level.

Global Brain has decided to invest in Vizcab, recognizing its well-balanced management and team, their deep knowledge of the construction and tech industries, the unique positioning in the market, and its products tailored to meet market needs. Global Brain will contribute to Vizcab's business growth by providing multifaceted support, including a wide network of relevant industries worldwide.
