Global Brain has invested in Sanu Inc., a subscription-based second home provider
Global Brain has invested in Sanu Inc. (SANU), a subscription-based second home provider, through its 31VENTURES Global Innovation Fund II (31VENTURES II).
SANU provides a subscription service of second homes based on the concept of “Live with nature.” This is a service that allows users to repeatedly visit nature-rich locations within an hour and a half to three hours from central Tokyo at any time. The second home market, SANU's target, used to be based on sales and rental transactions that required high hurdles to overcome in terms of purchase and contracting. On the other hand, the average stay per year is approximately less than 30 nights. In addition, COVID-19 triggered a structural change in the way people work, creating additional demand in the market due to the new style of workcation.
SANU’s second home service is based on a subscription model with no initial cost and a monthly fee of 55,000 yen. The company currently operates 50 buildings in 7 locations in Japan, and its membership quota is already full, with those awaiting registrations topping 3,200 (as of July 2022). It is also pursuing sustainable development related to construction and building, utilizing 100% domestic timber and using renewable energy, and is also working on CO2 absorption in buildings. Going forward, SANU plans to promote the development of 200 buildings in 20 locations by 2024, improve UI/UX through further development of IT systems, and hire talented team members in preparation for expansion. Against the backdrop of changing lifestyles including remote work, SANU will lead the creation and expansion of the second home market through the use of software.
Global Brain has decided to invest in SANU because of its organization led by the management team, its positioning in the major market trend of home/lifestyle, and its ability to promote its business by bringing together both software and real estate. Through this investment, Global Brain will support SANU in realizing the new lifestyle it is aiming for.
