Global Brain has invested in OptQC Corp. (OptQC), a Japanese startup aiming to develop commercial optical quantum computers, through its Global Brain Flagship Fund IX (GB-IX) as the lead investor.
OptQC was founded in September 2024 to commercialize cutting-edge optical quantum computing technologies developed by the Furusawa-Endo Laboratory at the University of Tokyo, a global leader in this field. Quantum computers are gaining attention as the next-generation computing infrastructure capable of solving complex problems beyond the reach of classical computers. Industrial applications require hardware with over one million qubits, and OptQC’s optical quantum computers are expected to achieve this scale due to their superior scalability compared to superconducting and other quantum computing implementations. Additionally, they offer advantages such as lower power consumption and faster processing, positioning optical quantum computers as a potential ultimate form of quantum technology in the long term.
Global Brain has decided to invest in OptQC recognizing the unparalleled, state-of-the-art optical quantum technology the company possesses. We are committed to supporting OptQC’s mission to commercialize optical quantum computers and expand their deployment globally, contributing to the realization of Japan-originated optical quantum computing on an international scale.
