Global Brain has invested in NEWLOCAL Inc. (NEWLOCAL), a startup committed to regional revitalization business across Japan, through its KDDI Regional Initiatives Fund I (KRIF I).

NEWLOCAL creates sustainable regional business models to solve issues that derive from Japan’s declining population. By focusing on real estate development, NEWLOCAL partners with local leaders to build a “people, finance, and knowledge” circulation system, fostering the creation and growth of sustainable local businesses.

In just three years since its founding, NEWLOCAL has launched business in five regions (Nozawa Onsen and Miyota in Nagano prefecture, Oga in Akita prefecture, Tango in Kyoto prefecture, and Komatsu in Ishikawa prefecture) and develops 12 facilities such as hotels and restaurants. NEWLOCAL has also raised a total of JPY 1 billion to support the growth of regional businesses and has created over 50 job positions, about half of which are filled by people who relocated from outside the region. These efforts have generated concrete and sustainable impacts on local economies.

Global Brain has decided to invest in NEWLOCAL, highly recognizing its sustainable and replicable regional revitalization model which NEWLOCAL created from a unique approach backed by passionate management team with powerful execution capabilities. Through this investment, Global Brain will help address Japan’s regional issues and support further expansion of NEWLOCAL’s business.
