Global Brain has invested in bitBiome, Inc., a company advancing bio-manufacturing with one of the world’s largest microbial genome databases

Global Brain has invested in bitBiome, Inc. (bitBiome), a company advancing bio-manufacturing with one of the world’s largest microbial genome databases, through its SUISO no MORI Fund and KIRIN HEALTH INNOVATION FUND.

bitBiome is a startup originating from Waseda University in Japan that possesses the world’s first microbial single-cell genomics technology “bit-MAP®︎,” enabling accurate reading of genetic information from microorganisms that could not be analyzed before. Using “bit-MAP®︎,” the company has built “bit-GEM,” an extremely diverse and the world’s largest microbial genome database consisting of over two billion sequences, and is developing “bit-QED,” an enzyme discovery and modification platform contributing to bio-manufacturing. The company has jointly launched a transaminase enzyme screening kit with Twist Biosciences, Inc. and is advancing bio-manufacturing projects with Tokyo Ohka Kogyo Co., Ltd. and Ajinomoto Co., Inc. By leveraging microbial single-cell genomics technology and the world’s largest microbial genome database, bitBiome aims to achieve a bioeconomy through efforts in decarbonization, a circular society, and medical innovation.

Global Brain has decided to invest in bitBiome, based on its high regard for bitBiome’s business and talented management team with the ability to bring its plans to fruition. Global Brain will contribute to the growth of bitBiome’s business in collaboration with Niterra Co., Ltd. and Kirin Holdings Company, Limited.
