Global Brain has invested in Beacon Power Services (BPS), an energy tech company providing data and grid management solutions to help Africa’s power sector electricity distribution, through its JGC MIRAI Innovation Fund L.P. (JGC MIRAI Innovation Fund). Across Africa, while challenges in power generation remain significant, there are also deep-rooted issues in power transmission and distribution, leading to annual losses of approximately USD 5 billion (JPY 750 billion) in Sub-Saharan Africa alone. BPS addresses these challenges by providing data-driven solutions tailored to the unique needs of Africa’ power sector, helping utility companies efficiently manage their national power grids. BPS’s products have already achieved remarkable success in Ghana, where the company supported the complete digitization of operations for the state-owned Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). This initiative resulted in reliable electricity being supplied to more than 5 million customers and doubled ECG’s revenue within just two years. Since its seed round in 2022, BPS has significantly expanded its team, now employing over 200 people across Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Zambia, and the United States. Global Brain highly values the growth potential of the digitization market in Africa’s power sector and BPS’s strong operational team, which has led to its decision to invest.
