Global Brain has made an additional investment in Turing Inc. (Turing), a startup that develops full self-driving technology, through its Global Brain Flagship Fund IX (GB-IX), GB-VII & GB-VIII Follow-on Growth Fund Investment Limited Partnership (GB-VII & VIII Follow-on), JGC MIRAI Innovation Fund L.P. (JGC MIRAI Innovation Fund), Canon Marketing Japan MIRAI Fund (Canon MJ MIRAI Fund), SFV･GB II L.P. (SFV･GB II) and MF-GB Fund 3 L.P. (Mitsui Fudosan &Innovation Fund) as the co-lead investor. This marks an additional investment for JGC MIRAI Innovation Fund and Canon MJ MIRAI Fund and the first investment for GB-IX, GB-VII & VIII Follow-on, SFV･GB II, and Mitsui Fudosan &Innovation Fund. Turing is a startup from Japan that is simultaneously working on the development of End-to-End (E2E) autonomous driving AI, in which a single AI performs everything from environmental recognition to route planning and driving control based on data acquired from cameras, and large-scale infrastructure models that understand the common sense, background, and context of human society. By integrating these two, Turing aims to realize fully autonomous driving, in which a car performs driving operations in place of a human under all conditions. Since its founding, Turing has been committed to the development of self-driving AI that understands the world better than humans and enables safe driving. Turing has already achieved various technological accomplishments, including Heron, a Visual Language Model (VLM) that boasts the world’s highest performance^\*, collection of high-quality public road driving data for AI to learn Japanese traffic rules and manners, and development of Gaussian Splatting technology to reconstruct the data in three dimensions and generate an environment that enables AI to learn and verify various driving scenarios. These technological capabilities have deepened Turing’s collaboration with many large companies in the automotive industry that are looking to adopt AI technology and integrate it with an AI-native development culture, in line with the trend toward software-defined vehicles (SDV) in automobiles. Furthermore, these collaborations are not merely limited to technology demonstrations but are steadily paving the way for true social implementation that will bring safety and security to many automobile users through in-vehicle application in mass-produced vehicles. With the funds raised this time, Turing will expand its computational infrastructure (data center) for AI learning, strengthen its business development system for social implementation in mass-produced vehicles, and enhance its technology development system by hiring more AI engineers.
