Global Brain has made an additional investment in Cellid, Inc., a developer of AR glasses displays and spatial recognition engines

Global Brain has made an additional investment in Cellid, Inc. (Cellid), a developer of augmented reality (AR) glasses displays and spatial recognition engines, through its Kyocera Venture Innovation Fund-I.

Cellid is a Japanese startup with the world-leading technology for designing and developing AR glasses featuring lightweight and wide field-of-view (FOV) waveguides. Following its announcement made last November on the release of its Reference Design that uses optical, see-through, and lightweight waveguide lens, Cellid now plans to offer solutions that leverage AR glasses for new businesses and business challenges and accelerate the expansion of the overall AR market with various global partners.

AR glasses are further evolving with the recent rise of generative AI, becoming more familiar like smartphones and smartwatches as companies around the world including Japan are stepping up their development. However, the major challenge they face is to develop the technology that achieves the lightness of ordinary eyeglasses and high-performance features such as wide FOV, high brightness, and high resolution.

Cellid’s advanced technology for key components including thin and lightweight waveguide lens and micro projectors that support wide FOV is driving the company’s efforts to develop lightweight AR glasses for daily use with cutting-edge designs. Cellid’s AR glasses are expected to be used in medical, entertainment, and many other fields for operational efficiency and remote operations, having the potential to be widely used as a groundbreaking technology for solving existing business challenges. The company aims to capitalize on such strength and provide its technology to various clients including AR glasses manufacturers, enterprises, and consumers to expand the AR market itself.

Global Brain sees Cellid has high-level technical capability and engineering team as well as sufficient track record to keep its leading position in the expanding AR market. Global Brain will continue leveraging its resources to assist Cellid’s business and product developments.

Note: In December 2022, Global Brain announced its initial investment in Cellid through its EP-GB L.P. and TOKYU-CNST GB Innovation Fund L.P. https://globalbrains.com/en/posts/invested-in-cellid
